Leave Us a Google ReviewFrom complete engine overhauls to precision injection work, cooling system repairs, and drivetrain rebuilds — Endurance Marine handles it all with the experience and tools your vessel deserves.
When your engine has reached the end of its service life, a proper overhaul is the most cost-effective path to a reliable, long-lasting powerplant. We perform complete marine diesel engine overhauls to manufacturer specifications using only OEM or equivalent quality parts.
Our process begins with a full disassembly and inspection to document every component’s condition, followed by a detailed written estimate before any parts are ordered.
The fuel injection system is the heart of your diesel engine’s performance and efficiency. Worn injection pumps or fouled injectors cause hard starting, black smoke, poor fuel economy, and engine damage.
We use precision test equipment to verify injection pressure, timing, and spray pattern across all major marine engine brands — both mechanical and electronic systems.
Overheating is one of the most damaging things that can happen to a marine diesel engine. We thoroughly inspect, service, and repair both freshwater and seawater cooling circuits to keep your engine at optimal temperature.
Slipping gears, noisy operation, or difficulty engaging ahead or astern are signs your drivetrain needs professional attention. We diagnose and rebuild marine transmissions and outdrives for a wide range of vessels.
A clean, well-presented engine room signals to any surveyor or buyer that the vessel has been properly maintained. Our engine detailing service is the perfect complement to any major service or overhaul.
An engine survey gives buyers, sellers, and insurers an independent, factory-level assessment of a marine diesel or generator — mechanical condition, electronic health, and true performance under load. A hull survey rarely tells the full story about the machinery; this closes that gap.
Every survey is run on the manufacturer’s own diagnostic tooling and backed by lab fluid analysis, then compiled into a photo-supported written report with graded findings, prioritized deficiencies, and honest cost and service-life estimates.

We're based in National City and serve the greater San Diego area — all the bays and marinas from Oceanside down to Chula Vista, including Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Mission Bay, and Coronado.

Smoke color is a useful first clue. White smoke often points to unburned fuel, water intrusion, or low compression. Blue smoke usually means burning oil. Black smoke suggests overfueling, air restriction, or overloading — often a prop or turbo issue. Grey haze can indicate injector or combustion issues. Any persistent smoke is worth a diagnosis before it becomes an expensive problem.
First, check your raw water intake: a fouled strainer, blocked through-hull, or failed impeller causes most overheats. If those look good, the problem may be in the heat exchanger, thermostat, or exhaust elbow. Shut down before temperatures climb into the danger zone — running an overheating diesel can cause serious damage. If it keeps happening, have us take a look.
For most recreational boats: oil and filter changes every 100–250 hours (or annually at minimum), fuel filters annually or as needed, impellers every 1–2 years, coolant every 2–3 years, and valve adjustments per your engine's manual. Generators follow similar intervals based on hours. We can set up a maintenance schedule tailored to your engine and how you use the boat.
An engine survey is a thorough professional assessment of an engine's condition — visual inspection, running tests, sea trial data, and often oil analysis. You'd typically want one when buying a used boat (a hull survey doesn't cover the machinery in depth), before a major cruise, or when planning whether to repair or repower. We provide detailed written reports you can use for purchase decisions or insurance.
Yes — marine generator service is a core part of our business. We service Onan, Northern Lights, Westerbeke, Kohler, and more, and we're an authorized dealer for Rehlko and Whisper Power, which means factory-backed sales, installation, and warranty support.
Authorized dealers protect your warranty, install to factory spec with genuine OEM parts, provide ongoing factory-backed support, and can help you size the right unit for your boat. Gray-market or self-installed units often have limited or voided warranty coverage.
Yes. Whether your old engine has reached the end of its life or you want more reliability and efficiency, we can help you evaluate repower options, select the right engine, and handle the full installation. It starts with a conversation about your boat and how you use it.
Check the basics first: battery charge and connections, fuel level and valves, and that your stop control isn't engaged. A diesel that cranks but won't fire usually has a fuel delivery or air problem; one that won't crank is typically electrical. If the basics check out, give us a call — describe what it does (clicks, cranks slowly, cranks strong but no fire) and we can often narrow it down over the phone.
